Mastermind – Reframing

Small Group Time:

Talking through the message during the week helps you and your group turn what God is saying to you into action steps. Begin with key questions, add any optional Scriptures and questions if needed, and then wrap up by deciding on your next steps.

Main Idea:

The struggles are real but may have less power over us than we think. Too often we believe we are prisoners to our thoughts: those voices telling us to worry, that we aren’t good enough, or that we can’t ever change our behavior. Lies believed as truth affect us as if they are true. Our thoughts are more than a reaction to what’s happening in our lives— they’re a powerful force for shaping who we are and who we can become. So this series will shine a light on the strongholds that hold us down and give us the tools we need to shatter them. Change your thinking, change your life.

Key Questions:

1. Name one random pet peeve about your life. Okay, now practice reframing the way you talk about it.
2. Share your gut response to this statement: Perspective is reality.
3. Ben talked about “cognitive bias” – a mistake in reasoning based on personal preferences or beliefs. Do you have any default filters or “frames” that change the way you see life experiences?
4. Read Philippians 1:12-14. Describe a situation you’re facing that you’d like to reframe your perspective about.
5. What are some difficult circumstances in your life that could have been handled differently if you would have practiced PRE-FRAMING – thinking about your response & the way you view the outcome before it actually happens?
6. Read Romans 8:28. What can you thank God for about your situation? How can you grow from it? How will you look for God’s goodness in it?
7. Are you a VULTURE (looking for dead things) or a HUMMINGBIRD (looking for sweet stuff)?
